The Cosmograph Daytona is Rolex’s motorsport chronograph and one of the most demanded watches on earth — the steel version trades at a steep premium to a high retail.

The bottom line

The hardest steel Rolex to get and one of the most coveted chronographs in the world.

Consider it if you want the ultimate Rolex sports watch and can stomach the premium.

Born at the racetrack

Named for the Florida speedway where Rolex became official timekeeper in the 1960s, the Daytona pairs a tachymeter bezel with a three-register chronograph. Vintage Paul Newman examples are among the most valuable wristwatches ever sold.

The current 126500LN

The latest steel Daytona uses an in-house chronograph movement and a Cerachrom bezel. Retail is around $16,900, but secondary prices commonly sit well above — expect a 30–50% premium depending on dial.

Questions buyers ask

Why is the Daytona so hard to get?
Tiny allocation against enormous demand keeps waitlists long and secondary prices high.
Steel vs. gold Daytona?
Steel commands the biggest premium; precious-metal versions are more available and sometimes near retail.
